First aid

Knowing what to do in an emergency is just as important with pets as it is with family members. The first thing is to know what is an emergency, such as not breathing, unresponsive, broken bones, seizures, poisoning, being sick or diarrhoea for more than 24hrs or the opposite not passing urine, choking or an allergic reaction.
We are able to pass on our knowledge to our service users through information leaflets and where to go to access help for their pets.
A lot of our service users feel that they are judged by organisations depending on where they live or what benefits they are on, they feel isolated and like it's them vs us. A lot of people don't even know that welfare agencies exist as a potential resource for them for fear their pet will be removed from their care and they are criminalised or fined for neglect or cruelty. So when we are approached about the welfare of a pet we assess the situation and then direct them to all help that is available.

The connection.

We believe that the deep connection between pets and their owners is irrespective of how much money they have or where they live. There is an opinion amongst organisations that creates an unfairness and even obstacles for people in poverty to access affordable care and resources.

We focus on a long term approach to address this inequality and lack of resources

Stress.

When pet owners are stressed so are their pets. When the body is living in constant hunger the pet is suffering, and this constant hunger means the body is not healing it is trapping vital resources and there is no energy for growth or repair of injuries, so being hungry doesn't just make tummies grumble it has hidden effects we don't see.

Pet Food

It is important to feed a pet enough food to avoid weight loss, there needs to be a balance of protein, calcium and phosphorus. Under feeding and nutrient deficiency causes various health complications such as the inability to heal if an injury occurs and also weakness. Even though all of our food is donated to us we ensure as best we can that each pet gets enough food to last 2 weeks and we strive to not mix the food parcels as changing food types can cause tummy troubles.
